Occupational Therapy

Build Confidence and Restore Independence

Occupational therapist helping a senior patient regain daily living skills

At Booker T. Washington Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation, we understand that everyday activities, cooking, bathing, dressing, driving, working, are more than routines. They give independence and quality of life. Our occupational therapy services help seniors and patients of all ages regain these essential skills after illness, injury, or surgery.

Whether you are recovering from a stroke, managing the effects of arthritis, or regaining strength after surgery, our dedicated occupational therapists work with you to build confidence and restore independence. With a team of licensed experts and the support of our skilled nursing facility, we provide care that is both personal and highly effective.

What is Occupational Therapy?

Occupational therapy focuses on restoring the ability to perform daily living activities. Unlike physical therapy, which emphasizes mobility and strength, occupational therapy for seniors and other patients centers on practical function, making it possible to cook a meal, manage medications, button a shirt, or safely move around your home.

Our occupational therapists use evidence-based practices and customized treatment plans to help residents and outpatients overcome physical, cognitive, or emotional challenges. At Booker T. Washington Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation, we focus on real-life goals that give you or your loved one the ability to live with dignity and independence.

Services may include:

  • Strengthening exercises for arms, hands, and upper body
  • Adaptive strategies for dressing, bathing, and grooming
  • Cognitive training to improve memory and problem-solving
  • Fall prevention techniques for safe mobility at home
  • Energy conservation strategies for chronic conditions
  • Recommendations for assistive equipment and home modifications

Occupational Therapy in a Skilled Nursing Facility

As part of our comprehensive rehabilitation program, occupational therapy is fully integrated into our skilled nursing facility. Residents benefit from 24/7 support, access to medical staff, and on-site equipment, so therapy is safe, effective, and personalized.

Our short-term rehab-to-home program is especially well-suited for occupational therapy. With 16 newly renovated private units designed to simulate home environments, patients practice everyday skills in real-world settings. From moving around kitchens to managing self-care tasks, our environment supports a smooth, confident transition back home.

Outpatient Occupational Therapy

We also offer outpatient occupational therapy for community members. You do not have to be a long-term resident to access our services. You can receive therapy while continuing to stay at home, with flexible scheduling to fit your needs.
